Blackhawks Sign Ethan Del Mastro to Two Year Deal
Chicago Blackhawks sign their final RFA in Ethan Del Mastro ahead of training camp.
Going to be trying something new for news pieces. These are intended to be shorter, bite-sized articles. Long-form articles are still planned for about once a week.
The Chicago Blackhawks signed Ethan Del Mastro to a two-year deal with a $950k AAV on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Much like last season with Wyatt Kaiser, it took until the last minute (the day before training camp) for the two sides to agree on a deal. Where Kaiser and Del Mastro differ is on the ice.
Del Mastro played 19 games and had one assist to show for it last season. He averaged 14:08 minutes per game.

In the 2024-25 season, Del Mastro had a promising 24-game appearance where he scored two goals and four assists with a 43.1 percent 5v5 goal share. Last season, that metric dropped to 18 percent.
This has been a very sloppy game — here's just one example. Del Mastro runs into Greene leading to a 2-on-1 break for the Blues: pic.twitter.com/9ytTC96J3m

Del Mastro is likely headed to Rockford as most of the roster spots on the blueline are pretty much set ahead of training camp. He played 45 games and scored two goals and 18 points with the IceHogs last season.
The 23-year-old will not be waiver-exempt, so there is the possibility of another team claiming him should he not make the roster.
